A Matter of Degrees

A Matter of Degrees

We all, like sheep, have gone astray,
each of us has turned to his own way;
Isaiah 53:6a

“No one who takes their hands off the plow is fit for the Kingdom”
Luke 9:62

Some years ago I sat in my home with my wife across from our then congregational leaders.
I could hardly look them in the eye…I was backslidden.
All I could say was, “I am so far away from the Lord, so lost, and I have no idea how to get back…”
I had strayed off the Narrow Path, it has happened slowly,
as “gates” went unguarded, and in tiny increments, ungodly thoughts,
impulsive fleshly decisions, selfish actions manifested…

There is a navigational principal that every pilot knows,
when  a vessel traveling veers just one degree off course will cause the vessel/aircraft to stray off
course one mile for every sixty miles travelled.
Without vigilance, without keeping eyes on the compass, the vessel will quickly be lost.
And so we must we be about our spiritual life, focusing on the Destination,
keeping “the fires burning”, engaging with our Bridegroom, our first love,
doing the things that help us to remain on the Vine- our prayer lives, feasting on His Word,
the Holy Spirit occupying our Temple.
Staying on track requires effort in our spiritual and thought lives, fixing our eyes on the Lord,
our tongues being instruments of blessing, praise, and worship, not of curses.
Watch out for those “little foxes”, beloved, stay on guard, keep looking upwards and onwards.

Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us,
fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith. “

Hebrews 12:1b-2a
