Spring Cleaning

“Be careful,” Jesus said to them. “Be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”

~Matthew 16:6

In the days preceding the celebration of Passover , Jewish people around the world do what most gentiles would call a “spring cleaning.”
Known as “bedikat chametz” the participants/observers thoroughly examine their entire homes- with a flashlight or candle and a feather- in every corner-for anything with leaven(chametz), any yeast or agent that causes a rising or “puffing up”.
All leaven found is discarded, the remnants of the final cleaning burnt ceremoniously while those of the household watch.
This physical natural-world action also has an important spiritual dimension. “Yeast” has long been associated with pride and arrogance,
and many people have fallen prey to a spiritual pride that can take root because of something that originally was a gift, a blessing from God-
a talent in the arts, music, accumulated or inherited wealth, a position held in a ministry, a company, or a myriad of other things where humility and thankfulness have eroded under the onslaught of pride.
Many have become unwitting slaves to Pride and Arrogance-types of a Pharoah that can enslave us-and injure many around us.

The holiday of Passover (Pesach) is all about deliverance. Freedom comes when we obey the Lord, follow Him in Spirit and Truth.
Spiritual spring cleanings- searching our Temples of the Holy Spirit-our bodies, souls, and spirits-and  throwing out, burning up those things that puff us up-then repenting-are essential as we walk with Yeshua, providing a clean “house”for the Holy Spirit where He will  rule and reign, in and through us.

How’s your “Temple”beloved?
Examine yourselves today, ask the Lord to clean out every corner.
Perhaps it’s time for a Spring Cleaning!
