Overcomers in the “Age of Anxiety”

“Rejoice in the Lord always—again I will say, rejoice! Let your gentleness be known to all people.
The Lord is near.
Do not be anxious about anything—but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving,
let your requests be made known to God.
And the shalom of God, which surpasses all understanding,
will guard your hearts and your minds in Messiah Yeshua.” ~ Phil.4:4-7

“Historians will probably call our era “the age of anxiety.”
Anxiety is the natural result when our hopes are centered in anything short of God and His will for us.”
~Billy Graham

When Billy Graham penned these words more than half a century ago, no one knew just how prophetic those words were.
Do  you remember the hope so many had as millions watched the ball drop on New Year’s eve 1999?
A new millennia was born, but hopes were quickly dashed.
Wars continued to rage, along with hunger and famine, and families, marriages, and ministries disintegrated.
Corruption among our leaders-political and spiritual-abound ever-the-more.
The anxiety levels of millions skyrocketed, along with all sorts of fears and hopelessness.
As believers we also endure trials so we shouldn’t be surprised (Father God certainly isn’t), and none of us are exempt from anxiety.

But God…

I find myself sometimes anxious about stuff I have absolutely zero control over.
Truth is that I know better, though. God is more than able!
And when I press in, and stick to the prescription the Apostle Paul penned in Philippians I am able to shake the “anxiety plague”.
He indeed has a Plan for each of us! We can know this because the Scriptures tell us, encourage us, extolling us:
REJOICE!
KEEP GOING!
THE LORD IS NEAR!
HE WILL NEVER LEAVE OR FORSAKE YOU!
DON’T BE ANXIOUS ABOUT ANYTHING!
PRAY AND KEEP PRAYING ABOUT EVERYTHING, AND BE THANKFUL IN ALL THINGS!
YOU ARE AN OVERCOMER!
