Unconventional Warfare

Then Saul clothed David with his own garb, put a bronze helmet on his head, and clothed him in armor.
David strapped his sword on his garment and tried to walk, but he was not used to it. So David said to Saul,

“I cannot walk in these, for I am not used to them.” So David took them off.
Then he took his staff in his hand,
chose five smooth stones from the valley, put them in the pocket of the shepherd’s bag that he had,
and with his sling in his hand,
he approached the Philistine.”
~1 Samuel 17:38-40

Saul tried to suit up David in the best conventional armor there was- his own.
David however recognized that he wasn’t able to even walk in all that heavy gear,
so he discarded all of it, choosing to go into the fray unconventionally: light and nimble,
choosing 5 smooth stones from the valley (not jagged or misshapen ones) for his choice of weapons- his sling.
He needed only one.

As believers we should remember that we are in the world but not of it, and as such we are equipped
much more powerfully than we often realize.
The spiritual weapons of warfare that we are given by God are in fact even more  unconventional than David’s,
and even more powerful, even “mighty to the pulling down of strongholds “( 2 Cor. 10:4)

What battles, what adversaries are you facing today, beloved?
Open the armory of unconventional weapons you have been given, wield them
and thank God for the soon coming victory.
